Time to Celebrate!

As we celebrate five decades of PTCUMC, I am also excited to share another milestone for our church. Weekday School is turning 40!  I recently found a newspaper article written in January of 1984 about the opening of the school that coming fall. Rev. Clay Jacobs was the pastor at the time and spoke with pride about the future of our church. He said Peachtree City is a great place to be in ministry. I couldn’t agree more and I think that it is still a true statement.

I am grateful that our church has invested in a weekday school ministry. The program has grown from a mother’s morning out and preschool to a combined program renamed Weekday School. We currently have 16 classes of babies through kindergarten, with 168 students and 34 staff. During the day our halls are filled with children playing, laughing, learning and hearing about how much Jesus loves them. Our teachers have a heart for this ministry and are there because they feel led to serve. We actually have a teacher who is celebrating 37 years of service this year! What a wonderful example of a servant’s heart for this important ministry.

I so am honored to be a small part of this legacy. Both of my children attended the program over thirteen years ago, and during that time, our esteemed Director Carolyn Long, recruited me as a substitute teacher. From there I went on to teach music class (thankfully children do not care if you sing well), become the Assistant Director and now serve as the Director of this ministry. We have had amazing leadership and dedicated staff that have worked hard to grow this program over the last 40 years. It is amazing to have parents who attended our program many years ago, now enrolling their own children.

What a year of celebrations for our church – 50 years of being PTCUMC and 40 years for our Weekday School. I am excited to celebrate our church’s upcoming milestones with you. Please be sure to save the date for April 27th when we will celebrate the Weekday School program turning 40. And I am especially looking forward to having lunch together THIS Sunday, February 2 to celebrate the church’s golden anniversary. We are truly a blessed church family to have so much to celebrate!
