When asked to define ‘neighbor’ for a lawyer looking for a loophole, Jesus pushes the boundaries farther than we ever expect to challenge us to love even our enemy. But how can we love our enemies if we struggle to love the people who are most like us- they live where we live and look (at least economically) the most like us? Resist the urge to spiritualize the power out of the Good Samaritan and take the first step. It’s hard to love someone when you don’t know their name.
