A Cup of Hot Tea

1 Chronicles 16:29-30

Worship the LORD in holy splendor; tremble before him, all the earth. The world is firmly established; it shall never be moved. Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice, and let them say among the nations, “The LORD is king!”

Sometimes the world’s brokenness is just too overpowering to bear. It seems so overwhelming. I cringe to turn on the news or check my media feeds but I still do. It’s become part of my prayer routine. It helps me pray for the people of Ukraine (especially the children,) pray for leaders, and pray for the world.

I’ve added another step to my routine of life lately. I make a cup of hot brewed tea which is strange because I’m not usually a tea drinker! I sit for a few minutes in silence and peace as the tea warms my inner being – it warms me and soothes me from the inside out. It’s so simple, and yet so effective for me.

It dawned on me that physical feeling is reminding me of the Spiritual feeling I have when I sit in the presence of God in worship. Of course, I’m certainly not equating the two as equal, but that inner peace we all seek right now is something that happens both in the physical and Spiritual realms.

I know many of you are reeling from all the images, all the brokenness, all the unknowns. It also has made me personally aware of how much two years of pandemic has worn me down. Good grief, I’m embarrassed to admit how much I struggled just to navigate the time change this year! We’re all drained.

If you’re in a similar place, then I recommend something. First, if you’ve not had a quiet, peaceful cup of hot tea for a while, make one. It sounds silly. Just do it. Block out all the noise and allow that inner warmth to remind you of the best Easter Resurrection Worship service you can ever remember attending.

Second, come worship with us online or in the building. We’ve recently been meeting people we’ve not seen for a long, long time. Those reunions are sweet and wonderful and encouraging for everyone involved.

Be filled. Be freed. Be sustained – for we know who is Lord. We know who is King. We know who is Sovereign over all. I wish to you an indwelling of God’s Undying, Unswerving, Unchanging, Unlimited, Unflappable, Unstoppable Love!!!

God’s Peace,
