Sisters and Brothers, can you believe it’s been nearly seven weeks?!
I was asked recently if it was my third or fourth Sunday… it was my sixth. Loving it!!
Thank you for being such a great church and thank you for continuing to introduce and re-introduce yourselves. I think I’ve surprised some of you by remembering who you were after meeting you the first time. Others of you, I must admit and apologize, I have messed up remembering names two or even three times. But I will get there! I’m praying about it and will continue to do my best.
This September is going to be a fantastic time to be involved at PTCUMC. We have 3rd grade Bibles to give out, the Chicken-Que which supports our scouting ministry, and a meet and greet with my wife, Kara, “the first lady” at month’s end (Kara gets the biggest kick out of that.)
I am thrilled to start a new worship theme in September that has the potential to really make a difference in your life. It’s about having a faith that “hangs tough” during uncertain times. Which as we know, are all too common. Whether it is personal crisis, or the challenges of adolescence (or aging in general), dealing with unrealistic expectations at work, and the hyper-competitive culture all around, family dynamics that exhaust, or simply the ebbs and flows in the church that unnerve, we can gain strength through faith in a God who is steady and reliable despite uncertain times.
One of the scriptures we often turn to in looking for a faith that hangs tough is Psalm 23. I encourage you to read/recite Psalm 23 throughout the month of September. Our worship team is looking for creative ways to incorporate it in our worship services. My youngest loved reciting Psalm 23 together at bedtime when I was still tucking him in at night. Maybe you could try that with your little ones (it’s ok to just read it until you better know it.)
This September is a great time to get involved or back involved at PTCUMC and rediscover together the blessing of shared faith with others, a faith that hangs tough. Be sure to invite your friends and neighbors. Let them know how much you enjoy practicing your spirituality through participating in PTCUMC.
