Billboard Jesus | Mary Fields

Over the last couple of weeks, Pastor Matt has been teaching on how branding and advertising go hand in hand with promises to deliver something that quite frankly isn’t always possible or possible at all. There are quite a few advertisements out there that are designed to grab our attention and have us join in with whatever they represent or have to offer. They are conveying a message on behalf of someone or something. We too, are conveying a message by living out our faith. In essence, we are walking, talking billboards! What message are we conveying? How are we conveying that message? Who are we representing? Conveying a message requires words, and representing requires more than words. It requires action.

2 Corinthians 5:20, says this: Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, certain that God is appealing through us. We plead on Christ’s behalf, “Be reconciled to God.”

An ambassador is a personal envoy sent from the head of state. A representative of a government or organization. In a less formal use, an ambassador can be anyone who represents something or someone. For instance, a pop singer who is a ‘brand ambassador’ for an advertisement or billboard for a certain product or service.

We have an opportunity to be a billboard for Jesus here at PTCUMC, where we are invited to join in what God is doing by praying for our Neighbors, inviting our Neighbors, and connecting our Neighbors with the Hope of the Gospel. You’ve heard the old adage, actions speak louder than words. When we serve other people through our actions, we show them that we care. More importantly, we show them that God cares.

Be encouraged this week as you live out your faith,
