Called to Both

Mother’s Day brings a swirl of emotions—joy, gratitude, maybe even a bit of weariness. As a mom and as someone who walks alongside others in their faith journeys, I’ve come to realize that motherhood and ministry aren’t two separate callings. They intertwine – often in the most unexpected and sacred ways.

There have been seasons when I’ve felt completely poured out, running on little sleep, stretched thin between work and home, trying to be everything for everyone. And yet, it’s often in those exact moments that God speaks the loudest. Not through the noise, but through the quiet surrender of a tired heart saying, “Lord, I need You.” These aren’t throwaway moments. They’re sacred. They’re where transformation begins.

There’s something holy about the everyday—the carpool lines, the kitchen conversations, the diaper changes, the school pickups, the bedtime prayers. These are the spaces where Christ meets us, shapes us, and reminds us that His strength is made perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). In these hidden places, God is doing His deepest work—not just through us, but in us.

This Mother’s Day, I find myself reflecting on Mary—the mother of Jesus. She didn’t have a ministry title or a formal role in the synagogue, but she had something far more powerful: a surrendered “yes.” She said yes to God’s call even when it was confusing, risky, and costly. Isn’t that the essence of both motherhood and ministry? Saying yes, over and over again, to the unseen, the unglamorous, and the eternal.

As the Director of Adult Ministry, I see the ripple effects of a mother’s “yes” every day. Grown adults whose faith was nurtured by a praying mom or grandmother. Volunteers who serve because a faithful woman once modeled Jesus to them in everyday life. Women who long to disciple others but quietly wonder if they’re enough – forgetting that in Christ, they are more than enough.

This is the kind of faith I long to cultivate, both in my home and in the ministry I lead. Not a polished faith, but a lived-in one. A faith that is honest, growing, and rooted in grace.

To all the mothers, grandmothers, spiritual mothers, and women who nurture others with Christlike love: your “yes” matters. Your prayers echo through generations. Your sacrifices are seen by God, even when the world doesn’t notice.

This Mother’s Day, may you rest in the truth that you are deeply loved by the One who called you. And may you find fresh strength in knowing that God meets you right in the middle of motherhood—messy, beautiful, and holy.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the gift of motherhood and for the women who pour out their hearts to love, lead, and nurture. Strengthen them today. Remind them that You see every act of love, every tired prayer, and every faithful step. May they know they are held by You, honored by You, and used mightily in Your Kingdom. Amen.
