Where Gratitude Shapes Our Service

Thank you, God has been our focus throughout November, and this past Sunday Pastor Chris reminded us that gratitude is more than something we express with our words. It is a posture that reshapes our entire way of living. When we truly see God’s goodness, when we slow down long enough to name the gifts in our lives, something shifts in us. Gratitude moves us outward. It opens our hands. It makes us people who give, people who share, and people who serve.

As we move towards Thanksgiving and then preparing our hearts for Advent, our church steps into a season where gratitude becomes visible in powerful ways. We welcome neighbors who may only come through our doors once a year. We prepare spaces where families will hear the story of Jesus again, or maybe for the first time. And this year, as we navigate the challenges of losing our traditional worship space to flooding, we are stretching to create room for every guest. Adding an extra Christmas Eve service in the Contemporary Worship Center is one of the ways we are doing that, and it means that our church family has a larger opportunity to serve than ever before. From decorating the building to guiding guests on Christmas Eve, every act of service helps us receive our neighbors with the same generosity God has shown us.

In this same spirit of gratitude, we remember that serving is not only something we do for the church, it is something God does within us. Every time we step into a role, offer a helping hand, or give our time to someone else, we are shaped a little more into the likeness of Christ. Some of these opportunities happen on Sunday mornings, and many happen quietly throughout the week, but each one becomes a way we join God in the work He is already doing here. There is room for every person, every gift, and every schedule to play a part. As we enter this season of gratitude and giving, may our service be our prayer of thanks, and may our church reflect the generosity of a God who never stops giving to us.
