Kay Theobald Reissing, born August 21, 1940, in Oak Park, IL, was a passionate educator, nature lover, and devoted follower of Christ. A graduate of DePauw University and Georgia State, she taught for many years, most notably at Vanderlyn Elementary where she was named DeKalb/Rockdale Teacher of the Year in 1988. Beyond the classroom, Kay served as Director of Education at the Chattahoochee River Nature Center, advocated for the knobbed whelk as Georgia’s state sea shell, and led various organizations including the Roswell DAR. She and her husband, Ted, shared a heart for missions, serving in countries across the globe. Kay’s bright smile, deep faith, and joyful spirit touched many lives.
A Celebration of Life was held Sunday, June 29 at Peachtree City UMC, with visitation at noon and the service at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BrightFocus Foundation in support of Alzheimer’s research.
