The Villarreal Family recently learned that their neighbors were planning to move and sadly, where they were going meant their pet donkey, Elvis, could not join them. They knew their neighbors were very sad and concerned about what would happen to their furry friend.
Villarreal Family to the rescue! They talked it over and together decided to invite Elvis to come live with them. Not only did they help a neighbor in need, they also have a happy and popular new member of the family!
Every Sunday, your kids learn the importance of loving God and loving their neighbors and this story is a great example of just one of many wonderful ways kids and families can make a neighborly difference in this world.
Jesus said there is no commandment more important than these: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Love him with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.'” Mark 12:30-31
If you are like me, it can be a challenge to know how to reach out and get to know your neighbors. I’ve learned that our kids can help open those doors. Kids are automatically inclusive of new friends and once kids connect, it’s easy for their parents and grandparents to follow in their footsteps. Through their example, kids can point us back to what Jesus taught us. Love God and love our neighbor!
