This past month, our kids at Camp “Live It Out” learned what it means to love one another like Jesus, to show kindness, compassion, forgiveness, and grace in their everyday lives. And as we’ve walked through the same lessons in our sermon series, we’ve been reminded that these aren’t just things we hope the next generation picks up, they’re the things we’re all called to live out, right here, right now.
That same call, to live out our faith with love and intention, shows up every Sunday in how we welcome and serve one another. One of the biggest shifts we can make as a church is realizing that serving on Sunday mornings isn’t just something a few people do. It’s something we all do. Every person who walks through our doors experiences hospitality based on the people they meet, not the team someone signed up for. That means the way we smile, the way we say hello, the way we offer to walk someone to Kids or introduce them to a friendly face over donuts, that’s all part of creating a church that truly reflects the love of Christ.
If you’re someone who already serves regularly, I want you to know how much that matters. And I want to encourage you to keep looking around. There are people sitting near you every Sunday who just need a nudge, someone to say, “You’d be so good at this.” That’s how a serve culture grows. Not from a signup sheet, but from a church family who believes in one another and calls out the gifts they see.
As we celebrate the Fourth of July this week, I’m reminded that we are incredibly blessed to gather in freedom, and that one of the best ways we can honor that is by continuing to build a church that is caring, inviting, and full of love for one another.
