Spencer Callaway

December 16, 1940  –  October 15, 2024

Eugene Spencer Callaway, 83, passed away peacefully at home on October 15, 2024. Born in Atlanta, GA, on December 16, 1940, he grew up in a loving home where his parents instilled in him a strong work ethic and a deep love of family. After graduating from Rabun Gap Nacoochee School, Spencer chose not to attend college and instead served in the Army, completing one tour. While stationed in Germany, he met and married his wife, Gisela. Spencer spent over 20 years working at Eastern Airlines, a career that proved to be a great blessing, as it allowed the family to return to Germany several times to visit relatives.

He had a passion for watching NASCAR races and enjoyed growing tomatoes in the backyard garden every summer. His skills ranged from bricklaying to maintaining his truck and crafting carved leather pictures. Known for his strong character, he was slow to anger and had a deep love for the Lord God.

After retiring, Spencer enjoyed participating in several mission trips with small groups to South and Central America, as well as stateside trips that involved building projects. He and his wife Gisela have been members of, and involved with, PTCUMC since 2017.
