The Perfect Thanksgiving

What makes a perfect Thanksgiving meal? Is it having the perfect roast turkey, cheese grits and corn pudding, roasted sweet potato casserole, potato gratin, green beans with bacon, cracked pepper dinner rolls, and pumpkin pie with a walnut crust? Obviously, what’s on the table at Thanksgiving is a big deal. But what makes Thanksgiving special is not just what’s on the table, but who’s around the table. With whom do we share our Thanksgiving meal? Perhaps we gather at the table with the dearest and closest people in our lives. Maybe we find ourselves in the company of relatives we are grateful to see but once a year.

Hopefully, we aren’t alone on Thanksgiving Day. If we are, it doesn’t matter what’s on the table. It’s the people around the table who put the thanks in Thanksgiving Day.

On Wednesday, November 20 at 6:00 PM, we will gather around the table as brothers and sisters in Jesus, as beloved daughters and sons of God. We will also share that meal in outreach with friends in our community who will not eat on Thanksgiving or Christmas without our sharing. We are partnering with Meals on Wheels to make sure that all God’s children in our small part of the world are fed. Get tickets for your household and donate meals for others today at ptcumc.org/thanksgiving. You can also sign up in the church lobby this Sunday.

Don’t forget that KiDs Ministry is collecting pet food for this mission. When we feed the beloved pets of our Meals on Wheels friends, we make sure they take care of themselves nutritionally instead of sharing their food with the furry companions they love.

I hope to see you around the table on November 20, but if you can’t be there, I hope that you will send your love out into the streets in Jesus’ name.
