Jesus said, “For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve…”
The last week of March always has a special place with its own meaning in the life of Peachtree City UMC no matter how horrible the storms of life may be. That week is one of the two weeks we rally together to serve meals for 7 consecutive days at the Central Night Shelter in downtown Atlanta. You did it again Church!
I went with the team on our opening night to see how it worked in the current pandemic outdoor configuration. We safely served over 100 people Thursday night through the CNS Street Ministry. We served them the love “you” prepared for them. Each person who came through our line received a breakfast bag, a lunch sack, a dinner, and the opportunity to receive a prepackaged gift of socks and personal items (along with many other wonderful gifts you provided.)
As I was helping to hand out those supplies with the rest of the team Thursday night, I was thinking about all the “people hours” behind the scenes that went into organizing, sorting, and preparing supplies from Midwest Food Bank, preparing the additional food supplies, pre-packing the personal item bags, and a hundred other tasks done by our Student Ministry, the Scouts, and various groups and individuals who gave of their time preparing for this week.
Once again, we had over 200 people from our church involved in this seven day movement of love that was done unimpeded by all the storms of life happening around us. On behalf of all the people I personally met during distribution on Thursday night, I wanted to say THANK YOU for what you have done. It matters.
Well done earthly Body of Christ! Well done!
